The Antix has been one of Jackson Kayak’s most popular boats for a few years now. There is something about a boat that can literally do it all, that gets paddlers excited. The original Jackson Antix was awesome but there was definitely some room for improvement. Thus the Antix 2.0 was created.
Jackson Antix 2.0 Whitewater Kayak Overview
As companies like Dagger and Pyranha continue the trend of slicy river running whitewater kayaks, Jackson felt they needed a refresh of the original Antix. The Anix 2 came as a response to the extreme popularity of the Dagger Rewind and the Pyranha Ozone.
The Antix 2.0 is a new and improved river play boat that is designed to not only be efficient downriver, but also surf every wave, splat every rock, and squirt every eddy line along the way. If you are looking for a whitewater kayak that can do it all, the Jackson Antix 2.0 is a great option. While the niche that the Antix 2.0 fills is the same as the original Antix, there are a number of key differences that give the Antix 2.0 “a slight edge.”
Jackson Antix vs. Jackson Antix 2.0 Comparison
As soon as Jackson Kayaks announced the Antix 2.0, paddlers began asking questions. One of the most common questions asked was “what is the difference between the Jackson Antix 2.0 and the Jackson Antix?” Here is a quick rundown of the differences between these two whitewater kayaks.
Jackson Antix 2.0 Hull Design
One of the most notable differences between the Antix 2 and the original Antix is the hull design. The original Antix was designed with a hybrid hull that utilized aspects of both a planing and displacement hulls. The design is similar to the design of the Liquidlogic Braaap. The new Antix 2 has a full length planing hull.
This provides a few different benefits. One, a planing hull makes the Antix 2 faster than the original Antix. Two, the planing hull allows the Antix 2 to carry more momentum out of holes and drops. Finally, the planing hull makes surfing waves in the Antix 2 extremely fun. The planing hull allows you to easily carve up and down the face of waves of various sizes.
Jackson Antix 2 Bow Rocker
Another notable improvement paddlers will notice in the Antix 2 is the more aggressive bow rocker. The original Antix did not have much rocker in the front of the boat. The Antix 2 increased the amount of rocker in the bow which allows the Antix 2 to take better care of you when paddling in big water, or technical runs. The additional rocker also helps the bow of the kayak stay dry when running drops and punching big holes.
Jackson Antix 2 Stern Rocker
When designing the Antix 2, Jackson reduced the amount of rocker in the stern. This adjustment contributes to the speed of the boat. With less rocker in the stern, the boat paddles much faster downstream and also helps the boat maintain speed better when skipping away from a drop or hole. Less rocker also makes the stern the ideal shape for squirts. A more flat stern makes the boat more balanced on end which allows the paddler to have better control when performing stern squirts. At the same time, the reduced rocker also prevents accidental back enders when punching sticky holes.
Jackson Antix 2.0 Length – How Long is The Jackson Antix 2.0?
The length of the Jackson Antix 2 varies depending on the size of the boat. Many paddlers are curious about how long the Jackson Antix 2 actually is. They want to know if the Antix 2 is longer than the Antix.
Here is the length of each Jackson Antix 2 whitewater kayak:
Size | Length |
Small | 7 ft. 7in. |
Medium | 8 ft. |
Large | 8 ft. 5 in. |
The Antix 2 is slightly longer than the original Antix. This additional length contributes to the increased speed of the Antix 2 and helps make this kayak one of the most fun river running play boats on the market.
